the future of pplcast
by alec on Feb.28, 2009, under development status, the future
Welcome to the pplcast.com Code Blog. It’s gonna be pretty inactive until the site launches i guess, so don’t get your hopes up about it but still feel free to make feature requests and suggestions by emailing them to alec@pplcast.com or submitting them at http://www.pplcast.com/feedback (when i get around to making that page).
Current aims are to get profile pages looking good and functioning well, including a friend request page, a friend finder page, a friend invitation page (which should work with facebook, bebo, myspace, msn etc, and should also be shown after signing up and should be shown on a lot of pages), deciding on the functionality and names of the twitter-like messages, having four options for viewing the profile friend feed: posts by alec (which will also show replies alec has made to people who are also your friend), all posts (which will show posts to alec and by alec), notices (which includes updates of new videos, photos, music favourites, friends etc), and all. Also, a personalised feed for the user’s ‘home’, /home, which will be accessible somehow and needs to be differentiated from the normal home. Then i’ll work on each of the front pages, deciding on the layout etc, which is gonna take a while as i need to decide where to put all of the necessary navigation. The video pages and music pages also need a lot of work, displaying thumbnails, comments etc. Comments need to be unified across everything, and zenphoto needs to be modded a lot. Dunno if i should scrap zenphoto :S. Also i need to make the upload pages fully functional. It’ll then probably go into ‘beta’.
Once those are done i’ll work on the search engine and updating the music crawler to get music from seeqpod. After all this and some bug-testing the site should be functional enough for a ‘launch’, maybe we can put fliers through doors or something (lol) and pay friends for each person successfully invited.
